About Me

Hello thrifters, money savers, parents, grandparents, educators, and lifeline learners! I’m Dr. Jill Dorman, Personalized Learning and Gifted Services Coordinator, previous Assistant Principal, previous Gifted Intervention Specialist and Classroom teacher, author, wife, stepmom, breast cancer survivor, and creator of Thrifted Wisdom.

My educational journey began in 1999 when I graduated from THE Ohio State University with a Bachelor and Master in Elementary Education. After teaching in the General Education setting for 18 years, I went back to college and earned a Gifted Intervention Specialist License, and changed school districts for the first time in my career. Two years later, I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer and after a brief and successful battle, I returned to college once again, this time to earn a Principals License along with a second Masters Degree. The winter before I was set to graduate, my husband had a life altering stroke. At that point, I left the classroom and moved into administration to better provide for my family while continuing my studies as a doctoral student. On December 13, 2024, I graduated with a Doctorate in Educational Leadership and officially became Dr. Jill Dorman.

Being an educator for over 25 years, I have needed to be frugal and find ways to stretch money, often living paycheck to paycheck while being a teacher. After completing my doctorates, I found I had extra time on my hands that I had not had in about many years. As I considered what to do with my extra time, I considered writing. I enjoy writing and I even wrote a book in 2021 while in graduate school called “Be an Overcomer: Even If You Have to Do It Several Times.” However, after writing a 150+ page dissertation, the thought of writing another chapter book was not in my interest yet. Instead, I decided to use my interest in writing, mixed with my love to find a good money saving deal and my accumulated wisdom surrounding teaching and learning, to create a blog for others.

Thank you for taking the time and interest to read and follow my blog. Feel free to reach out with questions or suggestions as any time.
